Tim Wallace is an associate  professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at North Carolina State University. He received a PhD in Anthropology and an MA in Latin American Studies at Indiana University. His most recent research has been in Guatemala and Costa Rica working on issues of sustainable development and tourism in rural areas. His research includes work in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador, Japan, Hungary, Madagascar, Mozambique and Togo. He has been leading an ethnographic field schools every summer since 1994, including his upcoming, 15th 2008 Summer program.  During the Spring Semester 2002, he was in Guatemala on a Fulbright teaching at the Universidad del Valle in Guatemala City.  In 2003 he returned to the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala as a Fulbright Senior Specialist to teach and lead the tenth consecutive season of field work. The NCSU Ethnographic Field School is presently held in communities on the shores of the fabulously beautiful Lake Atitlán. Prof. Wallace was President of the Southern Anthropological Society from 1994 to 1995 and currently is a Fellow and an Executive Board member of the Society for Applied Anthropology and the American Anthropological Association, a member of the National Association for the Practice of Anthropology (NAPA) where until 2007 he has been general series co-editor of the NAPA Bulletin series. Currently he is the Editor of the Society for Applied Anthropology Newsletter. He is also a Fellow of the NC Japan Center.
