2. Outline of Course: MA231 is the second course of a two-semester sequence in calculus, designed for students who require a brief overview of the basic concepts, including modeling and differential equations. The first course in the sequence, and the prerequisite for MA231 is MA131. MA121 cannot be accepted as the prerequisite. There are three major topics in this course: (1) Multivariate calculus—partial derivatives, Lagrange multipliers, multiple integrals; (2) Series, including Taylor series; (3) Differential equations. Chapters of the textbook to be covered are Chapter 7, 10, 5 and 11. Not all sections will be covered. See teaching schedule.
3. Textbook: Calculus and its Applications, by L. J. Goldstein, D. I. Schneider, D. C. Lay, N. Asmar, 12th edition, Prentice Hall, 2010 (11th edition is okay).
4. Grade Policy: +/- grading systems will be used in this course.

· Two in-class midterm exams will be given on July 14th, Wednesday and July 26th, Monday. Dates are tentative.
- Final Exam: 40%
· Exam time: August 5th, Thursday, 1:00pm-4:00pm.
· It will cover the work of the entire semester.
