John Kessel had finished writing and revising Corrupting Dr. Nice at the beginning of August of 1996, after being asked by his editor to revise it one last time, and it was turned in, ready for print. For some reason, his editor did not like the first version of the cover art for the book (which appeared in an advertisement for Locus), so she gave it back to the graphic designers and told them to do it over. This may have caused the book's delay in coming out, in late January instead of late December. Anyway, the book has finally been released, and it has garnered rave reviews from such great science fiction authors as Jonathan Lethem, Ursula K. Le Guin, Connie Willis, and Kim Stanley Robinson. It also received attention from one of Raleigh, North Carolina's premeire newspapers, The News and Observer, which did a feature article on John and the new book. John will be doing signings at the local bookstores in Raleigh, namely at the Quail Ridge Bookstore on Wade Ave. on Jan. 18 from 3-5 p.m., and Waldenbooks & More on Capitol Blvd. on Feb. 15 from 1-3 p.m. John will be the guest on February 11 at Head Space to talk about the book.
