My story "A Clean Escape," originally published in Asimov's SF in 1985, has been adapted by writer Sam Egan into an hour-long episode of the new ABC anthology series Masters of Science Fiction, which will be broadcast sometime in the 2006-07 season, probably after the first of the year.
The series will include adaptations of a number of classic sf stories, inlcuding works by Robert Heinlein ("Jerry Was a Man" written and directed by Michael Tolkin, starring Anne Heche and Malcolm McDowell), Robert Sheckley ("The Watchbird") and Harlan Ellison ("The Discarded").
"A Clean Escape" stars Judy Davis and Sam Waterston, and is directed by Mark Rydell ("On Golden Pond," "The Rose," "The Rievers"). At the end of May 2006 I visited the production in Vancouver and watched some of the filming. I was impressed by the professionalism and care of everyone involved. Below are some photographs from the sets and production.
Director Mark Rydell took the time to explain to me his approach on one of the scenes.
