S. Tsynkov's Academic and Professional Background

Dr. S. Tsynkov holds a position of Associate Professor with the Department of Mathematics, North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, U.S.A. In the Academic Year 2000-2001 he is on leave from the Department of Applied Mathematics, School of Mathematical Sciences, Tel-Aviv University in Tel Aviv, Israel, where he holds a position of Senior Lecturer. Dr. Tsynkov also works as a consultant for the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE) at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, U.S.A.

Dr. Tsynkov's general research area is numerical PDEs. It includes numerical methods for infinite-domain problems, computational fluid dynamics, numerical wave propagation, active shielding and noise control, perfectly matched layers, and numerical methods for nonlinear scattering problems.

Since Fall 1994 till Fall 1997, Dr. S. Tsynkov worked as a National Research Council Resident Research Associate at Aerodynamic and Acoustic Methods Branch of NASA Langley Research Center. Before coming to NASA Langley in the Fall of 1994, Dr. S. Tsynkov spent two years (since Fall 1992 till Fall 1994) as a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Applied Mathematics, School of Mathematical Sciences, Tel-Aviv University in Tel-Aviv, Israel. In the preceding period, since after having obtained the Ph.D. degree in 1991 till Fall 1992, Dr. S. Tsynkov worked as a researcher at the Institute of Mathematical Modeling, Russian Academy of Sciences, in Moscow, Russia.
