Prerequisites: MA 405 and MA 407 (or equivalent)

TEXT: There will be no text but as references

Applications of Algebra by Klima, Sigmon and Stitzinger

A Course in Number Theory and Cryptography by Koblitz

Introductory Combinatorics by Brualdi

Error Correcting Codes and Finite Fields by Pretzel
Introduction to Finite Fields and Their Applications by Lidl and Neiderreiter

Applications of Abstract Algebra by Mackiw

We consider applications of algebra and the basic algebraic concepts needed for these applications. We will apply group theory to combinatorial problems, to cryptography and to factorization and primality testing. We will apply ring theory to coding theory.

The grade will be based on a presentation and homework.
