Scholarly Accomplishments

1.

Establish and Presided the NSF I/UCRC Center "Repair of Buildings and Bridges with Composite, RB2C", 2002 - present.


2.
Establishment of the "Professor Rizkalla Best Graduate Presentation Award" for the bi-annual Australian Conference on Composites (ACUN) sponsored by the organizing committee.
3.
Received five-year grant from NSF - Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program in collaboration with Virginia Tech in the field of "Macromolecular Science and Infrastructure Engineering." Seven departments (Chemistry, Engineering Science, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Wood Science, and Marketing and Accounting) from four colleges are collaborating in this program. The first Masters student sponsored by these funds, Mr. Norton Taylor, spent the Spring 2003 semester at Virginia Tech and completed his Master of Science Thesis in August 2004 under my supervision at NC State.
4.
Establishment and organization of the "Paul Zia Distinguished Lecture Series", 2002.
5.
Established and maintain accreditation of the Constructed Facilities Laboratory(CFL) by the International Code Council (ICC) previously known as ICBO Evaluation Service, Inc. The CFL is the only university lab in the United States accredited by this organization, which helps the industry members that user our lab to receive approval for new products.
