Key Largo March 09
The pictures on this page were shot during 6 dives out of Key Largo during March of 2009 with Horizon Dvers. There was one dive on the Benwood wreck, one on French Reef and several on Molasses reef; fire coal, train wheel, permit ledge.
The Benwood is pretty broken up but in a confined area. Lower part of boat is still somewhat intact.
The coral is in pretty good shape
Over by train wheel there are various machine parts now covered with coral
And a large anchor
Lots of fish. Plenty of grouper but they tend to be shy, like to hide caves, and there always seems to be turbidity in the water when you see them. Here is the best shot.
One of my favorites are the large midnight parrot fish
A big permit came over and checked me out
The white spotted filefish comes in two dramatically different colors. They often travel in schools. One of each color.
There are a couple kinds of scorpion fish.
Another favorite is the queen angle.
We came across a large cobia laying on the bottom. We watched it at close range for a while and then it swam away.
