Cancun December 2008
The pictures on this page were shot during 8 dives in Cancun during December of 2008. There was one dive on the C58 wreck, 5 deep reef (50fsw) (3 Grimbal Reef, 1 Horseshoe Reef, 1 Tunnel Reef), and two shallow reef dives. Viz was better on the deep reefs and almost all of these pictures were taken on the deep reefs or the C58.
Visibility was very good on the C58. Clear out to at least 70 and you could see further than that. C58 is in two pieces. We had little current. Water was 78 or 79 on all dives.
We start with the C58.
Lots of swim throughs on the C58
The bow piece lays on its side.
Highlight of this dive was seeing a school of eagle rays twice. This picture does not do them justice. They came closer than this.
Saw turtles 5 times on 3 dives. Here is my best shot.
Also watched one eat for a while
The colors can form almost an abstract painting
As you go deeper colors are surpressed starting with the reds. This is not very noticable at 20 ft but becomes more pronounced at 50-60ft. A flash (or flashlight) brings out the full color.
Consider the following picture shot in ambient light of an elkhorn coral
in comparison to one shot with the flash
El Tunnel reef has a number of nice swim throughs
The remaining pictures are of various animal life and scenes on the reef'
Yes, there is a fish in the next photo.
A lot of the cooler sponges hang inside the holes and caves in the coral
