ECONOMIC SOCIOLOGY (SOC 754)
Economic sociology refers to the sociology of economic life or the sociological study of economic actors, institutions, and processes. This course is designed to highlight the major concepts and debates in current theory and research in the economic sociology subfield. The focus will be on the New Economic Sociology paradigm and how this tradition differs from other approaches to studying the economy. In doing so, the course will draw attention to the core concepts utilized in economic sociological research (e.g., embeddedness, social capital, culture). Students will also be exposed to 1) classic and contemporary applications of these concepts to the study of markets and 2) economic sociological research from comparative and historical perspectives. |
