Electromagnetic Radiation from an Accelerated Charge

QuickTime plugin needed for this movie.

A pulse of electromagnetic radiation spreads out from a proton which was briefly accelerated (in the direction of  the yellow vector) a short time in the past. For clarity, only the radiative fields are shown. Note that the electric and magnetic fields are everywhere perpendicular to each other, and that the magnitude of the radiative fields is zero in the direction of acceleration.
