There are 12 articles, mostly one page long, with different perspectives on the relationship between community rights and conservation – pick one, read it, and answer the following questions:
1. What
are the key issues raised by the author(s) of the article? What problems are
pointed out, and what solutions are suggested?
2. Would
you consider the problems highlighted in the article to be relevant to rural
regions of the US where local economies are dependent on forestlands, or are
these issues unique to the specific regions that the article addresses?
3. Do
you agree with the assessment of the problem presented by the article, or do
you feel that the article takes a position that is biased toward one side or
another of the issue addressed?
4. Do
you agree with the solutions, if any, suggested in the article? If no solutions
are suggested, or if you do not agree with the solutions, do you have any ideas
for ways the problem could be addressed?
