Title: Large Tremere Deck
Deja.com Thread

I've more or less compiled a rough draft for a deck and I would like some
assistance. First of all, the deck is mainly a Tremere deck (uses Auspex and
Thaumaturgy, with a bit of Dominate here and there). As I've mentioned before,
there is no real "theme" here. The focus of my deck is probably more on the
lines of flexibility and survival. This translates to lots of Intercept, some
combat for the sake of protection, and lots of uniques. More interestingly,
the deck does not rely on any particular vampire or card. There are lots of
uniques, but there are no duplicates (this is where the flexibility comes in).
This way, late in the game, you don't waste deck space drawing things that are
already in play. The deck then de-emphasizes cycling through the deck as fast
as possible and one should avoid discarding. I understand that some may argue
that it's important to be aggressive rather than responsive, but I prefer to
begin rather passively and then work my way up. Another way to play is to work
with other Methusalehs. With all the intercept, a decent voting block, etc.,
one could make lots of friends. And besides, who needs to sweep the whole
table. I don't mind splitting all the VP's between myself and one other
person. My collection of cards is rather limited, and would classify under
"less than a box." The main thing I need help on is probably cutting down the
deck to the 90 max (right now the library's at a whopping 139). I hope I've
given all the relevant information. I started playing Jyhad about 3 or 4 years
ago though I really wasn't a hard-core player. It only lasted for less than a
year. But recently (in the past few months), I have become fascinated with it
once again. Unfortunately though, I lack a playgroup which could cause some
problems. So to reiterate, I'd mainly like help cutting the deck down (as
opposed to adding things). Besides the schematic of the deck, comments and
other musings are posted here and there (watch out for the long narratives):

19 Total Vampires
Max Draw = 39 (Ouch!!!) Min Draw = 8
Average Vampire Capacity = 5.947

I admit that there are lots of pretty large vampires. The purpose is to try to
get a few of the smaller ones out until you can get the heavy hitters. My
selection in vampires was heavily weighted towards special abilities (hence the
lack of Cardano and Thomas Thorne). I'm guessing that the fairly large average
capacity could pose a problem especially with weenie decks. Any reformation of
the crypt would most likely involve taking out some of the 8+ vampires.
Justine is there because she has decent disciples (superior of all in the
deck), has a vote, and could be potentially useful against the smaller weenie
decks. Democritus may seem out of place (1 inferior and 1 superior of the
three and no tha!), but the Justicar title is decent, and (the real reason) is
his special ability. With so many uniques in my deck, I may come upon a few
contestation problems (this would be especially helpful against other Tremere
decks). I guess that some might argue that by the time you get the 10 cap
Ventrue out though, you're probably already dead. With so many vampires and
only one copy, this deck, if it survives intially, will do pretty good in the
long run (hopefully). While other decks are limited to multiple copies of half
a dozen or so vampires, I can pull vampire after vampire without contestation
(as long as I have enough pool).

First off, I just KNOW that the first piece of advice I'll get is to drop the
allies. But to be honest, I've always liked Mages more than Vampires (so I
guess this is sorta like a Mage deck). In Ethan Burrow's words, I would play a
"fun deck" as opposed to one that "wins VP's." Allies kind of suck in VTES,
but I have 6 because it's sort of fun. And to be honest, they would probably
help against a weenie deck since you don't waste transfers on them, and the
manuevers and R damage most of them help can be pretty useful. The Flame
Throwers are a bit expensive and now that I think about them, I'll probably
replace them with .44 Magnums. Half the cost same damage (albiet not agg.) and
a manuever to boot. Opinions anyone? Does 4 Sport Bikes seem to be too much?
Should I bring it down to 2 or 3? Permanent intercept is a crucial issue to me
so 4 *might* be justified. I might also take out the Fourth Traditions
completely, or at least replace them with Govern the Unaligned. Since all my
natural Justicars and Princes have DOM (though the Praxis'ed ones might not),
and Govern also has bleed capability, should I do that? Should I bother with
Press's since this is only supposed to be a passive combat deck? Not sure if I
should keep the Boxed In's. I might also have too many intercept cards for
Auspex. Eagle's Sight is especially good for getting involved with other
Methusaleh's affairs and are good diplomatic tools. With the Sport Bikes, and
(you'll see later), KRCG and London Star, should I take out some Enhanced
Senses and Spirit's Touches? (Bring down to 2 or so?). With so many big
vamps, protecting them is important. Read Intentions allows Dodges (against
agg hand strikes, etc.) and at the same time, my smaller vampires can use the
press to end. Don't know about it though. Telepathic Misdirection is VERY
nice. Coupled with Deflections, the defensive aspect of my deck can still
cause my prey to be bled. The reason why I have 4 Tel. Mis AND 4 Deflections
is because a variety means more vamps will be able to shift the bleed.
Furthermore, Telepathic can be used as intercept and (this will rarely happen)
since it is Auspex, it CAN be used against those nasty Malkavian antitrubu
Blessings of Chaos. Should I take out some of the combat cards? Decrease the
Cauldrons or Bursts? Add more permanent damage (e.g. guns)? As a sidenote,
the reason there are so many "4's" of cards, is that yes, I'm an ex-Magic
player, and it's become sort of a habit. At the very least, it adds some more
variety to the deck.

Master Cards:

1 Academic Hunting Ground
1 Archon Investigation
2 Auspex
5 Blood Doll
1 Blood Puppy
1 Chantry
4 Dominate
1 Elder Library
1 Elysium: The Arboretum
1 Elysium: The Palace of Versailles
1 Illegal Search & Seizure
1 KRCG Newsradio
1 London Evening Star
2 Minion Tap
1 Misdirection
1 Mob Connections
3 Sudden Reversals
4 Thaumaturgy
2 Unnatural Disaster

        = 34 Master Cards

105 + 34 = 139 Total Library Cards (so the goal is to get rid of 49 cards!)

Is 5 Blood Dolls overkill? If it is, should I make it 3 or 4? I admit the
distribution of Discipline cards is a bit weird -- 4 Tha, 4 Dom, and 2 Aus. I
should probably replace 2 Dom with 2 Aus but (I'm embarrassed to say this),
that's all the Auspex I have! One Illegal Search is still there, mainly
against Assault Rifles, Flame Throwers, or whatever. My only defense is
intercept and Blood Fury (but the latter is effective only for a turn or so).
The one Misdirection is there more as an Easter Egg surprise for my prey.
Would like to see the look on their face when I use that crucial card that
doesn't really go with the rest of my deck. Sudden Reversals are also good for
defense against those various nasty masters out there and are also nice tools
for diplomacy. How many people play with locations, and how many do they play
with? My deck has a lot of things to do against locations -- 2 Unnaturals, and
more importantly 4 Disputed Territories. Is this location overkill?

So, feedback on the deck and on my other comments would be appreciated. Sorry
if this was a bit long and all (bad habit of mine). Well, thanks in advance!
