Required Text (Hard copy or E-book purchased with MyMathLab access): Finite Mathematics & Its Applications plus MyMathLab/MyStatLab Student Access Code Card (10th Edition) by Larry J. Goldstein, David I. Scheider, and Martha J. Siegel
ISBN #9780321744586
This textbook was chosen by the department in part due to its online component. The online homework is available through MyMathLab. The crucial thing that everyone has to purchase is an Access Code to MyMathLab. Since an Ebook comes as part of the MyMathLab access, a hard copy of the book is not necessary!
(This means that the info on the bookstore website is misleading!). You can obtain a MyMathLab access code in more than one way:
1. A student can buy a brand new shrink-wrapped book from the NCSU bookstore that should have a MyMathLab access code. A brand new book bought elsewhere may not have a MyMathLab access code.
2. (Cheapest) A student can buy a MyMathLab access code at the bookstore for about $100. (Disclaimer: this price is approximate!). Then a student gets access to the E-book version of the text. I believe this is called the “online access kit” on the NCSU bookstore website.
3. A student can buy a MyMathLab access code as well as a used textbook. This will obviously be more expensive than option 2, but might still be more affordable than option 1 if you prefer to have a hard copy of the book.
The final exam will be Wednesday, May 1 from 6-9 pm, in our usual classroom. We will have an optional review session the night before, Tuesday April 30, in our usual classroom, from 6-8 pm.
