I am a PhD candidate in applied mathematics, with my dissertation defense upcoming on June 10; my research (with Prof. Jim Selgrade) involves using differential equations to model hormonal control of the human menstrual cycle.  This summer, I am working with the math REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) at NCSU.  In August, my family and I will be moving to Wooster, Ohio, where I will begin a tenure-track faculty position at the College of Wooster, a selective liberal-arts college.

My wife Heather and I are active at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina, where she serves as Minister of Music.  During my eight years at PGBC, I have served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir member.  We enjoy watching sports, especially college football and basketball.  We have recently become parents for the first time, as our son Daniel was born on May 29, 2007.

For over a decade, I have been playing disc golf, sometimes also known as “Frisbee golf”, although not as often now, with an infant at home!  Six years ago, I started competing in local and statewide tournaments.  In 2006, I was the director of the 2nd annual Triangle Disc Golf Charity Weekend, a three-day event that raised over $1,800 for Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center.

For several years, I have volunteered as the P.A. announcer for football games at Fuquay-Varina High School.  Prior to coming to NCSU in 2002, I spent four years on the FVHS faculty as a math teacher, head athletic trainer, and advisor to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter.

Having a strong interest in both math and sports, I created The Fantastic 50, an all-classifications computer ranking of the top fifty high school football teams in North Carolina.  In addition to being visible on my web page, my rankings are also published by several commercial websites, including NCpreps.com and FNFRDU.net.  Additionally, I write about local high school football, from a statistical perspective, for Raleigh's largest newspaper, The News and Observer.

My undergraduate mathematics degree, as well as a master’s in math education, were earned at The University of Florida.  I also took classes in the sports medicine program, and was active in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and intramural sports.   My friends and I spent many an autumn Saturday in The Swamp watching the Gator football team, or following the team to away games.
