Current Students

Ki Young Chu is from Seoul, South Korea.  He received his BS in Civil Engineering from Handong University (Pohang, Korea) in 2005. He is now working on his MS at NCSU on modeling of groundwater flow and contaminant remediation in heterogeneous aquifers.  Prior to starting graduate school, he traveled throughout South Korea on his mountain bike. When he can't ride, he exercises near his house and plays basketball.

Kirsten (Kitty) Hiortdahl is from Baltimore, Maryland. She received her BS in Environmental Biology from Francis Marion University and worked for the USDA-ARS research facility in Florence, South Carolina. She is working on her MS in Environmental Engineering at NCSU focusing on enhanced biological remediation of chlorinated solvents in column studies. Outside classes and research, she enjoys cooking, biking and backpacking.
Mehrnoosh
Stewart Farling is from Elizabeth City, NC. In December 2011, he will complete his BS in Environmental Engineering from North Carolina State University in 2011 and begin working on his MS at NCSU on enhanced sorption and degradation of explosives in soils. During his undergrad Stewart spent a year abroad in Japan, and likes to spend spare time learning to cook interesting meals from around the world.
