Title: Advancements in Coastal Storm Surge Modeling

Monday September 22nd, 4pm, Mann Hall 323

Abstract: The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is making a significant investment in the development of the next-generation of storm surge modeling capabilities. Special emphasis is being placed on the development of improved representations of tropical and extra-tropical storms at landfall, new source terms for shallow-water numerical wave models, the nearshore evolution of topography and bathymetry during storms, and a North Carolina Test Bed for model evaluations. Current applications include the preparation of mid-Atlantic coastal flood risk products for FEMA.
