North Carolina State University's Department of Wood and Paper Science has roots that extend back almost 60 years. In addition to the Extension Program, there is an academic program that includes both graduate and undergraduate studies.

Recently the Department voted to change its name. Sometime in the future it will be known as the Department of Forest Biomaterials.
