I am a professor at North Carolina State University in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics. I am from Minnesota originally, received my undergraduate degree from Saint John's University, and my PhD in economics from Iowa State University. My wife Silke Schmidt is from Westerstede, Germany. Our son Tammo James Phaneuf was born February 11, 2005 in Durham, NC and our daughter Finja Marie Phaneuf on March 31, 2010 in Kiel, Germany. Our Welsh Springer Spaniel Nell completes the family.
We spent the 2009-2010 academic year at the University of Kiel in Germany, where I was working on a book.
