...NWS STORM SURVEY CONFIRMS EF-2 TORNADO IN DILLON COUNTY...

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM SURVEY CONFIRMED TODAY THAT AN EF-2
TORNADO OCCURRED IN DILLON COUNTY DURING THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OF
NOVEMBER 15TH. OVER A TOTAL PATH LENGTH OF 1.5 MILES THE TORNADO
MADE THREE SIGNIFICANT TOUCHDOWNS. THE FIRST TOUCHDOWN WAS
APPROXIMATELY 200 YARDS SOUTH OF DOGWOOD LAKES ROAD AT 1250 AM.
LARGE TREES WERE SNAPPED AND A MOBILE HOME ROLLED ABOUT 20 YARDS
BEFORE COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATING. IT IS UNKNOWN HOW WELL THE MOBILE
HOME WAS ATTACHED TO THE FOUNDATION BUT THIS DAMAGE IN CONJUNCTION
WITH THE SIZE OF THE DAMAGED TREES IS INDICATIVE OF WINDS OF 110-120
MPH...EF-2 ON THE ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE. THE PATH WIDTH WAS
APPROXIMATELY 40 YARDS. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF THE MOBILE HOME WAS
OCCUPIED BUT NO KNOWN INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED.

A BRICK HOME WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED ON PEE DEE CHURCH ROAD NEAR ANDRE
DRIVE. A NEAR TOTAL ROOF FAILURE AND SOME DAMAGE TO THE EXTERIOR
WALLS AGAIN SUPPORTS AN EF-2 RATING WITH WINDS LIKELY IN THE 110 TO
120 MPH RANGE. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED TO THE UNKNOWN NUMBER OF
OCCUPANTS.

SMALLER TREE DAMAGE AND MINOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE WAS NOTED FROM THIS
POINT TO THE NORTH-NORTHEAST FOR ONE HALF TO THREE QUARTERS OF A
MILE AS THE TORNADO WEAKENED AND/OR SLIGHTLY LIFTED FROM THE GROUND.
DAMAGE THEN BECAME MORE SIGNIFICANT ON HIGHWAY 9 EAST NEAR CORNELIUS
DRIVE. ANOTHER BRICK HOME SUFFERED TOTAL ROOF FAILURE WITH SOME
MINOR FAILURE OF EXTERIOR WALLS. WINDS AGAIN ARE ESTIMATED AT 110 TO
120 MPH. NO INJURIES REPORTED TO THE UNKNOWN NUMBER OF OCCUPANTS.

THE TORNADO THEN CONTINUED NORTH-NORTHEAST AT 45 MPH THROUGH A LARGE
WOODED AREA...LIKELY WITH WINDS IN THE 85 TO 100 MPH RANGE JUDGING
BY TREE DAMAGE. THE TORNADO THEN INTENSIFIED AS IT HIT A HOME ON
APPLETON COURT. THE BRICK HOME SUFFERED A TOTAL ROOF FAILURE. THERE
WAS SLIGHTLY MORE EXTENSIVE FAILURE OF THE EXTERNAL WALLS SUGGESTING
HIGH END EF-2 WINDS WITH SPEEDS OF 120-135 MPH. THE PATH WIDTH WAS
ABOUT 30 YARDS. THE THREE OCCUPANTS WERE NOT INJURED. THE TORNADO
COMPLETELY DISSIPATED ABOUT 200 YARDS NORTH OF THIS RESIDENCE.
