North Carolina Gamma Chapter
Pi Mu Epsilon is a national honorary mathematics society founded in 1914, with chapters on more than 150 campuses and a total membership of about 30,000. The N.C. State chapter, known as North Carolina Gamma, was installed in 1960 and has a current membership of 102. The faculty advisor for this chapter is Dr. Robert Silber of the Mathematics Department. Membership in Pi Mu Epsilon is by invitation, based on broad guidelines set down by the national office. Unlike some honorary societies, we do not restrict our membership to students in a particular major program. However, one of our guidelines is a "demonstrated interest in mathematics". This is a non-issue for students whose major area is mathematics or mathematics education; for other students we look for some course work in mathematics above and beyond required courses.
