The Multimedia Center

The Multimedia Center in the math department has come a long way in the past 20 years. Originally called the audio/visual center, the early focus was on production of video tapes corresponding to classroom lectures.

Now, of course, the main activities center around instructional uses of the internet and special purpose software such as Maple which is used heavily in the engineering calculus sequence.

The Multimedia Center provides substantial support services to both students and faculty. Student support primarily is in the form of help with Maple and WebAssign (see article on WebAssign). Faculty support includes help with construction and management of web sites and assistance with managing WebAssignments for classes.

Denise Seabrooks is the Supervisor of the Multimedia Center, and Seyma Bennett and Jennifer George are "teaching technicians" who provide the technical support for faculty. Seyma also coordinates computer help for students in the Multimedia Center, while Denise supervises and schedules tutoring and schedules use of all equipment other than the computers (projectors, computer peripherals, digital cameras, etc.).
