Randoph C. Dickens

Randolph "Randy" Charles Dickens, former instructor in the Department of Mathematics, died May 11 [2003]. He was 88.

Born in Statesboro, Ga., Dickens graduated from West Point Military Academy in 1936 with the rank of brigadier general. He served tours in World war II, Korea and Vietnam as well as four tours with the department of Defense.

Following his retirement from the military, Dickens received a masters's in education from Duke University and a doctorate in continuing education from NC State. After working in Fayetteville for five years, Dickens returned to NC State to teach mathematics until retired in 1986. He was a past president of Raleigh Kiwanis Golden K and was lieutenant governor of District 12 of the Carolinas of Kiwanis International from 1986 to 1987. He received the George E. Hixson Fellowship ward in July 2000..

He is survived by his wife, Lazelle W. Dickens; sons, Michael M. Dickens and Larry C. Dickens; sister, Marjorie Tully; and four grandchildren.
