About Me: I am a Master’s student in
Mathematics Education at North Carolina State University. I earned two degrees in Mathematics
Education and Mathematics at N.C. State in 2005. Before becoming a full-time graduate
student, I taught high school math for two years: one in Deer Park, NY and, most recently,
in Raleigh, NC. I am originally
from Patchogue, NY. Upon
graduation, I plan on attending a school out west for my Ph.D. in Mathematics
Education. I enjoy road biking and
playing volleyball. I have a
chocolate labradoodle named Barry.

Sketchpad Activities: Below is a pair of activities to be used
in the classroom. They serve as a
link between geometry and algebra.
The activities should be done in order. Students engaging in these activities
should have experience with the area and circumference formula for a circle and
have previous work with linear and quadratic functions. Directions and questions are contained
on the web pages but are also provided as a separate Word document (.doc). Students should work individually or in
pairs while exploring these sketches.
Whole-class discussion is encouraged at the conclusion.
