Physics 205-601 and PY208-601 are the distance-education sections of the traditional two-semester, calculus-based introductory physics course designed for students in engineering and the physical sciences. Each is a four-credit-hour course with laboratory. All materials including the laboratory are delivered over the Internet. Students never need to come to the NCSU campus in order to participate in the course, take labs, or take examinations.
PY205 (Classical Mechanics) is a one-semester online physics course covering particle motion, rigid body motion, oscillatory motion and wave motion. The pre-requisite is first-semester calculus with a grade of “C–” or better.
PY208 (Electromagnetism) is a one-semester online physics course covering electrostatics (fields and potentials), DC and AC circuits, magnetism, electromagnetic induction, and light (geometrical and physical optics, photoelectric effect). The pre-requisites are second-semester calculus (“C–” or better) and PY205 (“C–” or better).
Both courses are offered in Fall and Spring semesters and in the Summer Session.
