REGLAS DE LA COMUNIDAD (COMMUNITY RULES)

REGLA/RULE #1: ¡NO FALTES! (BE THERE!)
1. ¡No llegues tarde! (Do NOT arrive late!)
2. ¡No salgas temprano! (Do NOT leave early!)
(If something happens that prohibits your attendance, e-mail your chat partners to explain the absence.)
(Note that any student who is absent three times and does not notify the professors will be removed form the community and will receive a zero for the part of the final grade that corresponds to the chats.
(Please e-mail your chat partners if you need to be absent or have been absent.)

REGLA/RULE #2: PRESTA ATENCION. (BE ATTENTIVE)
Choose a time to chat time when you will not be distracted with friends coming in your room or calling.

REGLA/RULE #3: RESPETA EL IDIOMA QUE CORRESPONDE A CADA MEDIA HORA DE LA CHARLA. (RESPECT THE LANGUAGE IN USE FOR EACH HALF HOUR OF THE CHAT – ½ hour in English/ ½ hour in Spanish)

REGLA/RULE #4 APRENDE A SER UN(A) BUEN(A) CONVERSADOR(A) (BE A GOOD CONVERSATIONALIST):
As a good conversationalist, you will want to ask lots of open-ended
questions that encourage your chat partner to give more information.
Example:
COMPAÑERO: Yo no voy a mi clase de inglés hoy.
TU: ¿No? ¿Por qué?

COMPAÑERO: Yo vivo en Raleigh, North Carolina.
TÚ: Qué chévere. ¿Cómo es Raleigh?

Don’t overtly correct your partner, unless he/she asks for clarification. If you do not understand what your partner is saying, ask him/her to repeat or rephrase, or model the structure for him/her.
Example:

(I’m not sure I know what you mean by….)

¿Qué debo hacer si... (What should I do if…)
