I am interested in combinatorics, tropical geometry, and computational geometry problems in computational biology, bioinformatics, and computer science. My current research focuses on using geometric spaces to represent, study, and analyze phylogenetic trees and networks, and the mathematical problems related to understanding these spaces.

For example, in recent work with Scott Provan, we gave the first polynomial time algorithm for computing the geodesic distance between phylogenetic trees in tree space, as introduced by Billera et al. (2001).
