A snapshot of my scholarly research and teaching

Teaching portfolio

The English department at North Carolina State University marks the beginning of my teaching career in higher education. Here, I've had the opportunity to establish my personal teaching philosophy in a department that values professional development of their undergraduate instructors and at a university on the cutting edge of developments in teaching with technology. The school embodies the values of higher education through their commitment to sharing knowledge and practices to make all of us better instructors.

While compiling this portfolio, I've had to reflect on my teaching experience and practices. Though many of us have chosen to teach for similar reasons – loving the material, enjoying working with students, making learning a lifelong adventure – what separates us as teachers is what we bring to the table for our students. So what do I bring to students in my classroom? What makes my classroom setting unique? This portfolio is my answer to this question and a continuing reminder that I don't do this for me – I do it for the students, to encourage a love for learning.

This teaching portfolio was compiled for the completion of my Certificate of Accomplishment in Teaching at NC State (2010). You can view a PDF of the entire portolio by clicking here.
