A snapshot of my scholarly research and teaching

My research

My research at NCSU is broadly concerned with rhetoric, science, and technology. My foundations are in rhetoric, including rhetorical criticism and genre studies. Through the CRDM program, I am expanding my studies to connect with communication and digital media.

Generally, I'm interested in the intersections of rhetoric of science, environmental rhetoric, public communication of science, and technology. Where exactly do these intersect? Hopefully my dissertation will explore these in a more specific setting.

While attending a tier-one research institution with cutting edge technology, I've also developed an interest in teaching with technology. What affects have digital media had on the way that we teach? On the way that our students learn? How can we reconcile aptitude differences between instructors and students when desiring to teach with technology? These are some of the questions that I hope my time in the CRDM will help me to answer.

My most recent - and exciting! - project is an open-access guide for Writing Program Administrators to explore adopting hybrid courses into their departments. Check it out at: wpahybridguide.wordpress.com.

Additionally, I've decided to make some of my work public here because of my belief of open access to knowledge and research done in the academy. It's an exciting time to to be a researcher. As such, the work on my site is licensed with the Creative Commons.
