Dr. Kowalsky is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at North Carolina State University. He arrived at NCSU after graduating from University of California, San Diego in 1997 with a PhD Degree in Structural Engineering.

Dr. Kowalsky's major field of research is seismic analysis and design of structures, including but not limited to: Bridges, RC Moment Resisting Frame, and Masonry Structures.

The most current research projects are:

     - Impact of loading history on seismic performance of RC members.

     - Seismic behavior of steel column to cap connections.

     - Seismic behavior of spirally welded pipe piles.

     - Seismic Performance of Shear Critical Lightweight Concrete Members.

     - Polymer Fiber Optic Instrumentation for Large Strain Measurements.

     - Displacement-Based Seismic Design of Bridge Structures

     - Effects of low temperatures on ductility of Reinforced Concrete Members.
