home (summary)

In preparing students for the demanding, dynamic, and flexible realities of communications careers, I feel my role as an instructor and my choice of teaching methods needs to be student-centric. To provide the type of experience that will enable students to excel, I focus on pedagogical strategies that bring three "real-worlds" into the classroom: 1) the professional world, 2) the technological world, and 3) the global world.

I invite you to navigate through my teaching philosophy to better understand my motivation, and then to the literature that supports the inclusion of these three "real worlds" into the learning experience. Next, see how these approaches are actualized in the kinds of activities and assignments I feel best prepare students for success - sometimes breaking the frame of the traditional classroom to get there.

This site is designed as a window into my teaching style. To experience the real thing, sign up for a course or observe one (be warned - I may even have you participate).
