Phi Sigma Iota is an international honorary society that recognizes excellence in students of foreign languages.
Student members must have:  1)completed at least one language course at the 300 level; 2)junior or senior status
(although in exceptional circumstances sophomores may occasionally be considered); 3)a 3.00 or better  average
for all college coursework.
    Initiation of those accepted for membership in Phi Sigma Iota usually takes place during the Spring Semester.              Faculty advisors for the Alpha Lambda chapter, at North Carolina State University,  are professors Carolyn Wright (wright@social.chass.ncsu.edu) and Kent Lioret (kent@unity.ncsu.edu) of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.  Ms. Linda Cowen is the chapter President for 1998-1999.

The 1999 initiation ceremony will take place Wednesday, March 24, in the Faculty Lounge, 1911 Building at 4:00 p.m..
At that time eleven outstanding students of French, German, Japanese and Spanish will be inducted.
