This course is a continuation of USC 101A. We will continue to explore self, majors and careers, and the campus community and resources. We will stress, again, the behaviors and skills that will enhance your academic and personal success. You will understand the factors that make for a successful career choice, so that you can move confidently into your degree program. The quality of your experiences in this course, as in all of your courses, will directly relate to the degree to which you are willing to explore, question, learn, and connect.

Please carefully review the Common Course Description and Requirements for course goals, general requirements, attendance policy, and grading system. In addition, please note the following policies for our class:

Assignments
  • Unless otherwise noted, assignments given are due at the start of the next class period.
  • Except under extraordinary circumstances, late assignments will not be accepted for full credit. Papers are collected during class; any papers turned in after the class period are considered late. If you need an extension, you will need to obtain my approval prior to the due date. If you must miss class, please arrange to turn in any assignments prior to class, or send your work with a classmate. Unexcused late work will be accepted up until 5 PM the day following the due date for a maximum of one half the assignment value. No credit will be given for any work turned in after this time.
  • Specific instructions for all assignments will be given in class and on the course website.
  • Unless otherwise noted, all reading assignments listed in the Course Calendar are from THE Workbook.
  • All assignments should be kept in a binder. You will need to reference work done in USC 101a in this course also.
  • See the Grading link for other grading policies and for assignment point values for this class.
  • Check the Vista Gradebook periodically to confirm/review your grades and absences.

Communications

  • Outside of class, I will use e-mail and our class website for communications. Please check frequently for updates and news. It is good practice to check your email daily.
  • You may contact me by phone, email, or in-person. If you leave a phone message, be aware that I cannot return out-of-area calls.
  • To schedule an appointment, see me or contact the FYC Main Office, 205 FYC Commons Bldg, 919-515-8130.

Class Meetings

  • Unless otherwise instructed, bring your text, THE Workbook, to each class.
  • Occasionally, class will meet at an alternate site. Announcements will be made in class and changes will be included in the Course Calendar.
  • Students are expected to be on time to each class.
  • Please turn off your cell phones, MP3 players, iPODS, etc., during class time.
  • There are two required FYC events in the Spring semester which occur outside of regular class time: the FYC Convocation (Wednesday, January 28, 7:30-9:00 PM, Stewart Theater), and the FYC Academic Networking Program (Saturday, February 21, 10 AM -12:15 PM).
