The first homework will be assigned on Tuesday. Until then, familiarize yourself with the Internet content of the course and try out some Maple.
I have removed the forums. Instead, communicate with me via email. I may post your messages (if permitted to do so) and my replies via links for this place.

Homework 1 is now graded. If you e-mailed John a copy, you should have received a graded response. Assignments submitted in person will be returned during class Thursday. Solutions are posted below.
We now have a forum set up. Please submit all questions regarding homework to John (send him e-mail). You may want to check the forum first before submit ting a question. All postings will remain anonymous.
I have redone the setup of my demonstration packages. You now can read the source files (*.mpl) and use the procedures exactly like the dynamically linked files (*.m). Please reinstall refpkg at home if you have already done so. This will enable you to Edit:Execute:Worksheet of the class worksheets by just changing the path to the initially read initpkg.mpl file.
If you have a conflict for the exam (Tuesday, Feb 10, 2:35pm, in class), please send me email when you can come for the makeup. The choice is either Tuesday or Wednesday, 5pm-6:15. Please remember the rules for the exam and prepare a note sheet.

Lecture 22: the bad model for the quicksort comparison count was caused by a bad data point for n = 20000. I will explain the fix after Easter; a Maple worksheet is now posted for the experiment conducted in class.
The official PAMS student evaluation of course and instructor review will be carried out on Thursday, April 23, during class. If you do not attend, please request a form from me before then (to be returned to Brenda Smith in HA 255 before May 1).

John is extending his office hours. April 29, May 1, May 4, and May 6, he will be available 10:30-11:30 (normal hours) and 2:30-3:30. Of course, you may make an appointment if you cannot make those hours. He will also be in HA201 Thursday, April 30, at 2:35 to collect Homework 6 and to answer questions.
The solution to the final exam of last semester is now posted. This semester's final is scheduled on Thursday, May 7, 1pm-3, HA 201. I will not be here from April 24 to May 6. I will have office hours May 6, 1pm-3, 5pm-7.
