Old Announcements

You can take this course either by coming to class or over the Internet. No distinction is made when you register for the class. If you are registered for another class at the same time, please see Carolyn Gunton in Harrelson Hall Rm 254 [(919)515-2270] and she will register you. There may be a conflict with the final exam, and you will be able to take a make-up final in this MA305 course.
I will record the audio-track of my lectures (in realaudio format) and scan-in the overhead foils (in jpeg format) that I write during class. I will also post the Maple worksheets of my live Maple class demos (in Maple worksheet and Maple text format). By listening to the audio while looking at the transparencies you may be able to follow the lectures. In the past, some students have taken the entire class this way. Your homeworks can be submitted by email through the Internet. However, you must be physically present during the three examinations.

Since the exams are taking place in HA 201, we can only register the capacity of that room, 109 students, in this class. If you are wait-listed, an option is to wait and see if students are dropping the class after the semester starts. Then you get their slots (in which order I don't exactly know). Currently (Nov 13, 2000), there are 9 students wait-listed.
I got delayed today in a meeting and will convert the audiotrack tomorrow, Fri, Jan 18.
The add period has expired. All those of you who are waiting to add this course, you have to wait until next semester. Sorry.

A textbook (Hill, Elem Lin Alg) was found in the study lounge. The book was purchased used.
The second mid-semester exams with solutions of previous years are now accessible in pdf format. The second mid-semester exam will be on Tuesday, March 26, during class. You can bring two 8.5 by 11 inches sheets of notes.

Due to a doctor's appointment, I will miss my regular office hours today, Mar 25. I will hold office hours today, 1pm-2pm, and tomorrow, Mar 26, 11:30am-12:30pm.

The student course evaluation will be held on Tuesday, April 30, at the end of class. Please bring a #2 pencil to class. Online students can fill out their evaluations immediately before taking the final exam.

Due to an error in problem 3, the Bonus Homework has been changed and reposted. The homework is still due Tuesday May 7 at noon.
The times for the makeup exams are: Monday, May 6, 2:35pm-4:35pm. Wednesday, May 8, 11am-1pm. If you cannot come on Tuesday, you have to send me email and give your reason and the choice of the two. The Wednesday exam is in Harrelson 154.
The formula for computing the final grade will not change. The bonus homework grade will be added to your homework grade, but the maximal grade for it will not be added to the baseline for computing the percentage.
