Old Announcements

• Since the exams are taking place in HA 201, we can only register the capacity of that room, 109 students, in this class. If you are wait-listed, an option is to wait and see if students are dropping the class after the semester starts. Then you get their slots (in which order I don't exactly know). Currently (Nov 13, 2000), there are 9 students wait-listed.
• You can take this course either by coming to class or over the Internet. No distinction is made when you register for the class. If you are registered for another class at the same time, please see Carolyn Gunton in Harrelson Hall Rm 254 [(919)515-2270] and she will register you. There may be a conflict with the final exam, and you will be able to take a make-up final in this MA305 course.

  I will record the audio-track of my lectures (in realaudio format) and scan-in the overhead foils (in jpeg format) that I write during class. I will also post the Maple worksheets of my live Maple class demos (in Maple worksheet and Maple text format). By listening to the audio while looking at the transparencies you may be able to follow the lectures. In the past, some students have taken the entire class this way. Your homeworks can be submitted by email through the Internet. However, you must be physically present during the three examinations.

• The online textbook should now be accessible to all students registered in the class. (It was not permitted to you before.)
• If you have realaudio installed and click on the speaker icon, the real audio stream should be receivable now.
• The postings for lecture 7 are now completed (Feb 2, 13h20).
• I have completed the trace statements of the inverse computation via Gauss-Jordan elimination that I started programming during class. See lecture 9 of the syllabus for the worksheets. If you wish to execute the new program at home, reload Src/myinverse.mpl into your package. Maple 6 users note: there is a new file makepkg6.mpl for compiling the source files and the online documentation. The tar'ed package file has also been updated.
• Homework 2 is posted.
• The solution to the first exam of last year is now also posted. All old first exams and their solutions are now posted in pdf format.
• Tuesday, Feb 13, during class time: first mid-term exam. All students without separate arrangements please come to class. You can bring one 8.5'x11' sheet with any form of notes (copied and shrunk, typed, hand-written, etc.).

• There is an online textbook for which you have to pay $10. Please pay Ms. Mary Byrd as soon as possible in HA 355, and she will give you a receipt. You can also send her a check payable to NCSU and addressed to Dept. Mathematics, Campus Box 8205, Raleigh, NC 27695-8205.
  I have also ordered a hardcopy book for those of you who wish to have one, but it is not necessary to purchase that book.
• The student course evaluation will be help on Thursday, April 26, at the end of class. Please bring a #2 pencil to class. Online students can fill out their evaluations immediately before taking the final exam.
