A Conceptual Model for Forging Web Sites
In Draft (not updated recently)
This is some old work I'm digging up and polishing off. As I feel comfortable with publishing it the old documents will be linked back in.
Forward
The 3D HLX process is a model for creating and maintaining web sites. It focuses on clean divisions of content into three layers: hypertext, layout and expression. The model also facilitates the transition period between designing, developing, and deploying a site, making the process run smoother especially when different parties are involved in any of the three phases.
The format of this documentation begins with an outline of steps followed by a detailed explanation of each item. 3D HLX is not a strictly linear process since many unexpected chutes and ladders can occur in the process of creating web sites. The general steps are layed out in the order that occur in ideal circumstances. The nine steps of 3D HLX often overlap, but design is always the initial starting point and deployment is always the end result.
The purpose of these pages is to document the process for internal reference and so that other organizations can benefit from the experiences leading to the formation of the 3D HLX process.
