The New York Mets were founded as an expansion franchise in 1960 and began play in 1962. The club came into existence as a replacement for New York's two previous National League teams, the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants, who relocated to California following the 1957 season. This is the reason for The Mets team colors of Orange (Giants) and Blue (Dodgers.) After sputtering through their first 7 seasons of existence, Tom Seaver (seen below) and the "Amazin" Mets of 1969 rallied from 17.5 games back to win their division and eventually win the world series against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Mets have won 2 World Series Championships in their 47 year history. The first, which came in 1969 as an underdog and the second, which came in 1986 as a favorite. The 1986 Mets entered their franchises 25th season as favorites looking to equal or improve upon their 98-64 record from 1985 and to try and win the National League East Division. Led by the "bad boys" Keith Hernandez, Daryl Strawberry, and Doc Gooden, The Mets would eventually finish the season with a 108-54 record, cruising to the division title. They went on to defeat the Houston Astros in six games in the NLCS and the American League champion Boston Red Sox in seven games in the World Series.
The most famous game probably in Mets histroy came during that 1986 World Series against the Red Sox. With the Mets already trailing in the series 3-2 and on the brink of elimination, the Red Sox took a 5-3 lead in the top of the 10th in extra inning. In the Bottom of the extra frame, The Mets, down to their final out and down by two runs, the Mets would go on to stage a historic comeback capped off by a Bill Buckner error that lead to The Mets scoring the winning run (Shown Below.) The Mets would go on to win game 7 and the franchise's 2nd Title.

The 2000 New York Mets made history with the New York Yankees for reaching the World Series and having the first "Subway Series" since 1956 when the Yankees played the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Mets, lead by Mike Piazza, would eventually lose the series in 5 games but capture their first National League Pennant since 1986.

The Mets look to add to their rich history by building a contender around current Mets Jose Reyes and David Wright (Shown Below.) In 2006 the Mets captured the National League Eastern Division Title and finished one game from the World Series.
