Introduction and contents Dr. Reid is a Senior Geologist at the North Carolina Geological Survey (NCGS). His responsibilities include minerals, geochemistry and health applications, geographic information systems (GIS), and the topographic mapping program in North Carolina including the National Map. His current focus is geologic hazards (sink holes / karst, abandoned mines, earthquakes, landslides and dams). He is a frequent contributor to the National Geologic Map Database and the National Geologic Map Image Library. He is a Fellow in the Geological Society of America and a member of a number of professional geological organizations and societies. He is a licensed professional geologist in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Tennessee. He also holds a Geologist's Corporate Certificate of Registration in North Carolina. Reid is a Certified Professional Geologist (American Institute of Professional Geologists) and a Certified Professional Manager. At North Carolina State University (NCSU) Reid is an Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (MEAS) at NCSU, Raleigh, NC. He is also an Adjunct Associate Member of the graduate faculty at North Carolina State University. Dr. Reid serves on graduate student committees at MEAS. Current student thesis projects involve landslides and mass wasting in western North Carolina. These projects aid the overall geological hazards program at the North Carolina Geological Survey. Prospective graduate students are asked to contact Dr. Reid about potential projects involving applied geology in North Carolina. Forensic geology and forensic course offerings Dr. Reid has a special interest in the application of geology and the geological sciences to solving crimes and the law. Currently he co-teaches forensic geology at MEAS. He is developing a general forensic sciences graduate seminar course to be offered in the Fall 2005 through the Multidisciplinary Program (MALS). Please contact me about additional information for these courses. Previously he has taught geographic information system (GIS) classes at MEAS.
