    Research and Research Interests

My primary interest is structural and tectonic geology. I love to figure out the history of the rock as far back as I am able to take it, and tie what I find from the rocks back to the regional tectonic history. I find it very refreshing and amazing to interpret such large scale, natural processes from such 'insignificant' parts of the Earth. I love to integrate technology as well as traditional mapping and surveying.

Although most geologists would categorize me as a 'hard-rock' geologist, I do have interests in geophysics, sedimentology (particularly beach and dune processes), and some aspects of enviornmental geology.

My current research is located in the Appalachians of southern and central North Carolina. I am working in the Albemarle and Randleman quadrangles, mapping the contact of the Tillery and Uwharrie formations. Here, I will gather location and orientation data of the formations, as well as collect samples to gather geochronologic data. I will also note any deformation characteristics I can gather from the samples. I also have the opportunity to explore and test an active quarry local to the area to aid me in my research.

Since I am relatively early in my geologic career, I still have many more opportunities to look for and take advantage of. My interests have a very wide range, and I am looking forward to future endeavors.

Me in my office, loving rocks.
