I graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2005 with a BS in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. In 2007 I received my MS in Applied Mathematics from North Carolina State University, and I am continuing to work toward my PhD which I should complete this summer. In July I will be moving to Asheville, NC to begin a tenure-track position in the Mathematics Department at the University of North Carolina at Asheville
At NCSU I am working with Dr. Mansoor Haider in the Orthopaedic Biomaterials Group. For my first 3 years at NCSU, I taught undergraduate courses for the math department and I am very excited to return to that when I start at UNCA. I have completed the Certificate of Accomplishment in Teaching (CoAT) program at NCSU, and in Spring 2008 I taught as a part of the NCSU First Year Inquiry (FYI) program. In July 2008 I began being funded under the Mathematics of Materials RTG.
I also tutor privately for a number of math courses. I have helped students who ranged in age from 7th grade through college. I'm familiar with the NC public school curriculum for grades 7-8, Algebra I and II, Geometry, and Pre-calculus. I've also had a lot of experience with Calculus I-III, Differential Equations, and many other undergraduate math courses. While at UNH I worked for Student Support Services (SSS), where I tutored students with various learning disabilities including Dyscalculia (math dyslexia) and ADD. It was through working there that I finally realized I wanted to become a teacher.
I also have a lot of (read: non-math-related) hobbies, which include cooking (and entertaining), sewing, and lots of other crafty things. I love trying new recipes and other ways to express my creativity. In the Spring of 2009 I learned I am gluten intolerant, dairy intolerant (not sure if it’s the lactose or casein that bother me...) and I’m also sensitive to citrus. I haven’t been officially tested for Celiac Disease, but I’m now learning to live free of all those foods and as a result I feel healthier than I can ever remember feeling. Oh, and at the top of the page that’s a picture of my boyfriend, David, and I at Super Bowl XLIII! (He won a radio contest -- how lucky is that?)
A little about me...
