Maple Advice
My advice is simple as follows:
- Go to http://www.math.ncsu.edu/calculus and familiarize yourself with this webpage.
- There is a link for doing the Maple Basics Lessons. Feel free to go through those. They can only help.
- Also familiarize yourself with the Using mini_submit. This will come in handy also.
- Now click on the Maple Homework link. You should be taken to http://egrader.math.ncsu.edu/eGrader/gethw.php.
- IF in Windows AND on-campus (or you have Maple installed on your personal computer) and you click on the link, it should automatically launch.
- If on a Sun, UNIX, or Linux system you should probably save the worksheet to a designated folder. (Ex: I saved mine to the directory /jmernstb/ma141/maple/.
- Then either open Maple (in either Sun, UNIX, or Linux do add maple and then xmaple & at the command prompt) or look for drop-down menus.
- Go through all the assigned work for each Maple HW. Save FREQUENTLY to a specified place on your computer or AFS Unity space.
- Go back and use Mini_submit to submit your Maple HW.
In order to use Maple from your dorm or home on your Windows PC do the following.
- Go to http://www.eos.ncsu.edu/remoteaccess/xwin32.html and download a program called XWin32. Install this program.
- Also look for the XWin32 Key or Code.
- Go to http://www.eos.ncsu.edu/remoteaccess/putty.html and download a program called Putty SSH. Install this program.
Now you're going to do what is called "ssh" or Secure Shell in the UNIX world.
- Launch XWin32.
- Launch Putty SSH
- In the blank under hostname type ssh.ncsu.edu.
- Click on the radio button SSH in the protocol option section.
- Click enter. A basic terminal-like window will open.
- Enter your Unity ID: (ex: mine is jmernstb) and return.
- Enter your password. You will now be using a SSH Terminal.
- Now type add maple.
- Now type xmaple &. Maple should launch.
When you go to save your Maple Worksheets they will save to your Unity AFS space. If any of this does not work, email me.
