I was born and raised in Barcelona (Spain). My academic credentials include a Ph.D. from Cornell University, an M.A. from the California State University, Los Angeles, and a Licenciatura in History of Art plus a graduate teaching degree from the Universitat de Barcelona (Spain).
My publications have focused mostly on contemporary Spanish culture, prose fiction, and film. I am the author of Lecturas espectaculares--a book on the manifestations of cinema in the contemporary Spanish novel--and have edited Ventanas sobre el Atlántico, a volume of essays on contemporary U.S.-Spain relations. My articles have appeared in MLN, Revista de Estudios Hispánicos, Arizona Journal of Hispanic Cultural Studies, Arbor, Letras Peninsulares, Cinémas Hispaniques, Annual of Foreign Films and Literatures, España Contemporánea, and several other journals as well as in numerous critical anthologies published in the U.S., Great Britain, and Spain. I have lectured extensively in the U.S., Canada, France, and Spain, and have held visiting teaching appointments at Duke University and the Université Lyon II (France). For many years I have been a member of the organizing committee of the Latin American Film and Video Festival of North Carolina.
