ENG 333 Communication for Science and Research

Jamie Larsen, Instructor

The following information is not an exhaustive vitae of my career in industry, or at NC State University. It is a model of what I will ask you to post to an Introduction Discussion Forum during the first week of class.

Work Experience

After graduating with a BA in Managerial Studies from Rice University, I immediately went to work for IBM as a Technical Writer at RTP, NC. My publications include manuals and online information. I moved into network programming, and my IBM career included experience in management and consulting. I left IBM when I decided to raise a family. When my children went to school, I decided to go back too. I received an MS in Technical Communication from NC State University. While working on my degree, I also worked as a Teaching Assistant, and a Research Assistant on a million dollar grant proposal.

Career Goals

I currently have a multi-year contract with NCSU to teach. I enjoy working with the best that NCSU has to offer. I do have a personal goal to publish a novel. I am working on one that is set in the 1940s. I have written two other novels but they have not found their way out of my desk drawers. I do have a publisher interested in this latest project so I am hopeful.

Interests and Activities

I love to read - big surprise! But I also love to snow ski and swim. Other interests of mine include animals. I own two dogs, four cats, and three horses. Most of my time is divided between teaching, managing a horse farm, and writing.

Favorite Quotation
