Grading & Assignments

The following assignments will be supplemented with online class notes. I provide a detailed description of each assignment along with specific evaluation criteria. I grade analytically (versus holistically). I do not read your writing and pull a grade out of the air. You will know exactly what I am looking for with each assignment, and you will also have the opportunity to see past examples of student papers for each writing assignment.

Assignment 1: Investigative Short Report (10%) DUE 1/22
Assignment 2: Career Management Portfolio (10%) DUE 2/4
Assignment 3: Oral Presentations & Evaluations (15%) DUE 2/19 &2/21
Assignment 4: Collaborative Instructions (15%) DUE 3/17
Assignment 5A: Concept Paper (10%) DUE 3/26
Assignment 5B: Formal Proposal Report (20%) DUE 4/16
Assignment 6: Impromptu Writing (15%) DUE 4/30
Online Class Participation (5%)

Missing over 3 online classes, which include all discussion postings, emails to me, and submissions of assignments will deduct from the 5% online class participation grade. Also, although each online class is not graded individually, they will be evaluated overall for substantive thought and content. 98-100 A+
93-97 A
90-92 A-

88-89 B+
83-87 B
80-82 B-

78-79 C+
73-77 C
70-72 C-

68-69 D+
63-67 D
60-62 D-

Meaning of Grades

For a bit of a lighter take on grades, read the following list:

A Manager would be very impressed and remember your work when a promotion is discussed.
B Manager would be satisfied with the job but not overly impressed.
C Manager would be disappointed.
D Manager would be troubled by the poor quality of work and ask you to revise and rewrite sections.
F Manager would start looking for someone to replace you. (Let's not have any of this!).
