88 photos from the Study Abroad Program
to Tanzania, Summer 2009
In summer 2009, Dr. James Kiwanuka-Tondo Co-Directed a one month study abroad program to Tanzania that involved three faculty and 15 students from NC State, University of North Carlina at Chapel-Hill, and two other universities in the US. The group spent three days in Zanzibar where they toured the spice farms among other things and three weeks at the African Alliance Community Center in Arusha, Tanzania. While at the community center, the students had an intensive course in Kiswahilli, learned about Tanzania cultures, and did a service learning project in the community. During the third week of the program they visited Masaailand for two days and learned about the Masaai culture and toured Ngorongoro Crater Game Park as well as Serengeti Game Park for three days. The climax of the trip was the climb to the first level - about 9,000 feet above sea level - of Mountain Kilimanjaro.
The photos illustrate the activities and the scenic beauty of Tanzania.
