John J Majikes

NCSU Computer Science

After having a successful Software Engineering career,  raising children, and surviving Leukemia, I have begun a lifelong dream to earn my PhD.

When I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia the sobering diagnosis gave a 90% chance of getting the cancer into remission.  But 90% is the upper limit of any cancer survival estimate.  My chances were excellent.

At two years old, my nephew was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.   His chances of getting his autoimmune disease into remission with the exisiting technology was 0%.

My proposed thesis will be a Software Engineering solution to facilitate the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of a closed loop insulin system.  Essentially an Artificial Pancreas.
