MA 341 "Applied Differential Equations" Summer 2009 I

Textbook: No textbook will be used. The lecture is self-contained.
Reference: Optional. Fundamentals of Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems, by Nagle, Saff and Snider, Addison-Wesley, 4th edition.
Objectives: Learn how to set up, solve and apply ordinary differential equations.
Prerequisites: MA 242 (credit is not allowed for both MA341 and MA301)

Homeworks: HW1.pdf, HW2.pdf, HW3.pdf
You are strongly urged do all the relevant homeworks before you come the next lecture.
Postponing the homeworks is unwise and detrimental.

Grading: The letter grade will be determined from the total numeric grade as follows:
Letter Grade A+ A A- B+ B B- C+ C C- D+ D D- F
Total Numeric Grade >= 97 >= 93 >= 90 >= 87 >= 83 >= 80 >= 77 >= 73 >= 70 >= 67 >= 63 >= 60 < 60

The total numeric grade will be the sum of several numeric grades as follows:

Tests:
Midterm 1     May 27 (Wed). Answer
Midterm 2     June 9 (Tue). Answer
Midterm 3     June 18 (Thu). Answer
Final June 22 (Mon). 8:00-11:00 AM

All tests are closed book/notes.
You should bring calculators to the tests.
However, you are NOT allowed to bring computer algebra systems such as Maple to the tests.
Attendance: Required .
The attendance grade is calculated as "5 * the number of attended classes / the total number of classes".
(Officially excused absence will be counted toward attended classes).
Seats will be assigned from the 2nd week of the semester.
Instructor will not provide extra-help on missed lectures, unless there is an official excuse.
