Catalog Description: Listening and speaking; development of a balanced foundation in all Spanish language skills. Idiomatic, everyday Spanish and cultural awareness. Class practice, laboratory and written homework.
Objectives: At the conclusion of the course, successful students will be able to do the following in writing and orally with sufficient accuracy to be understood by a native speaker who is accustomed to dealing with foreigners:

- Express what has and has not happened
- Explain what people do for and to one another
- Describe how things are done
- Communicate about professions, the workplace and work-related activities
- Describe the process of looking for employment

- Express desires and intentions
- Communicate about urban and rural locales and the benefits and problems associated with each
- Communicate about the conservation and exploitation of natural resources
- Communicate about a nature preserve and the animals that are part of it
- Express emotions and make impersonal statements
- Express uncertainty and doubt
- Describe ideal situations that may or may not exist
- Communicate about television, movies and other aspects of popular culture
- Communicate about artists and their work
