Calculus and its Applications 8th edition, by Bittinger
GRADING:
The following percentages will be used in determining final grades.
Quizzes----------10%
WebAssign-------10%
Tests------------------55%
Final------------------25%
FINAL GRADES:
In general a 10 pt scale is used for final grades.
Keep all graded work. In case of any grade disputes,
the only way a grade can be changed is if you have a copy of the graded material.
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance will be taken everyday. If a student misses two classes
or less during the semester, then they will be allowed to replace their lowest
test grade with their final exam grade, provided they do better on the final.
There is no distinction between excused and unexcused absences except in
the case of a major test, where there must be official documentation.
If you will have to miss a major test, let me know before the test, otherwise
you will not be allowed to make up the test. You will not be allowed
to make up any quizzes. If you are not present when I take roll, whenever
that may be, you will be counted as absent. So don't be late!
Leaving early also counts as being absent. You may sit where you like,
but if a problem arises, I reserve the right to move you.
QUIZZES/WEBASSIGN:
Your homework will be completed via WebAssign.
Know when your WebAssign(ments) are due! Extensions
will not be granted. You have plenty of time to do each assignment, so start
early. The WebAssign homepage is
webassign.ncsu.edu . In addition
to the WebAssign homework, I will suggest problems from each section
for you to complete. These problems will not be graded but are important
to fully understand the material and to prepare for the exams. There will
be one or two short, closed book pop quizzes given every week. The quizzes
will cover the material from the previous days, never material from the day
of the quiz.
FINAL:
There will be a comprehensive final exam in our regular classroom on Tuesday
June 26, at 8 AM to 11AM.
TESTS:
Three tests will ge given throughout the semester. Makeup or early tests
will be given for excused absences with official documentation only. Excused
absences consist of medical problems or emergencies approved by the instructor
BEFORE the test is given. Unexcused absences will result in a zero score.
Make up tests will cover material through the day you make up the test.
If you feel a test problem was graded incorrectly then you can challenge the
grade in person and explain your reasoning. Challenges cannot be made
on the day the test is handed back and you only have a week to challenge
a grade. Show all work on the test or no credit will be given.
Dates for tests are:
Test 1-Wednesday May 30
Test 2-Friday June 8
Test 3-Tuesday June 19
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
Students are expected to follow university guidelines available at
http://www.ncsu.edu/provost/academic_regulations/integrity/reg.htm
